Psychologist Martin Seligman identified 3 “P”s that would negatively influence a person’s ability to recover from traumatic experience:
Personalization: The belief that we are at fault.
Pervasiveness: The belief that an event will affect all areas of our life.
Permanence: The belief that the aftershocks of the event will last forever.
We experience everything through the lens of belief. This explains all of the religions, The Secret and other metaphysical belief systems, miracles, answered prayers, luck, coincidence, and destiny.
If I’m wrong, tell me one way that a belief would not influence experience. And if you enjoyed this conversation, please share it with a friend who might also like to play with us.
