When the kids were younger, there were times where I heard fear and anxiety in our daughter’s questions.

Almost always I was able to let her know that those were grown up concerns and that she didn’t need to worry about those things.

That I would worry about them for her and let her know if there was ever anything that she needs to be concerned about. Because that’s what grown ups do- we carry those burdens because we’re capable of doing it.

While meditating, I sometimes observe a child part of me that’s fearful or anxious. What a glorious thing to be able to sit with that part of me, letting “little me” know that those are grown up concerns and that I’ve got it handled.

That’s self efficacy. And I think that’s what we’re all aiming for.
